The sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion takes place over two years of catechism, beginning in first grade and culminating in the reception of the sacraments in second grade. This two-year journey ensures that students are well-prepared both spiritually and academically. Our classes meet weekly on Sundays from September to May starting with 9 am Mass then class until 11 am.
Key Requirements:
-
Two Years of Catechism: Students must be enrolled in the CCD program starting in first grade, with formal preparation for the sacraments beginning in the second grade. This extended preparation helps deepen their understanding of the faith and the significance of the sacraments and is in accordance with the San Diego Diocese requirements.
-
Active Participation in the Program: Families are encouraged to participate in all CCD classes, activities, and monthly Family Faith Formation sessions. Regular attendance is essential to ensuring that children receive the full benefit of the formation offered.
-
Role of Parents: Parents are the primary catechists in their child’s life, and their involvement is crucial to their child’s spiritual growth. Our CCD program seeks to build strong partnerships with parents, helping them nurture their child’s understanding of the sacraments and their faith. Parents are encouraged to engage in regular prayer, discussion, and activities that reinforce lessons learned in class.
-
Reconciliation and Communion Preparation: Specific preparations for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will be provided throughout the second-grade year. This includes both classroom instruction and special parent-child sessions to help families understand the deeper meaning of these sacraments.
By working together—parents, children, and the CCD program—we help create a foundation of faith that will last a lifetime. Our goal is to support families in fostering a relationship with Christ through these important milestones in the Catholic faith.
